Chandler MHM advises on ground-breaking financing for the purchase of 1,200 electric buses in Thailand

Chandler MHM advised Asian Development Bank, EXIM Thailand, and Japan International Cooperation Agency on a 3.9 Billion Baht syndicated loan for Energy Absolute Public Company Limited (EA) to purchase electric buses.

The financing will enable EA to purchase up to 1,200 electric buses to operate in Bangkok and its vicinity. Replacing internal combustion engine buses with electric buses will reduce air and noise pollution in addition to helping Thailand achieve its goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions. This transaction was one of the first large-scale financing initiatives for e-buses in Thailand.

The team from Chandler MHM included David Beckstead, Sarunporn Chaianant, Phalintip Ueprapeepun, Jongkotchakorn Phantophas and Supawin Pongthananikorn. Mayer Brown acted as lead counsel.

Chandler MHM’s dedicated energy practice has a long history of advising clients on market leading clean energy projects across Thailand and ASEAN.

Jessada Sawatdipong, co-managing partner commented We are proud to support this important landmark transaction which will provide clean, safe and sustainable public transport in Bangkok while supporting Thailand in achieving its net zero goals for the benefit of all”.
